I. How it changes

  1. i

    Somebody burns

    Any holder destroys some of the supply. There is no fee and nothing to approve but the burn itself.

  2. ii

    Anywhere at all

    Phantom, a script, another site. Nothing is read except the mint's total supply, so it all counts the same.

  3. iii

    The count crosses

    Every 50,000 destroyed moves it one place along the bank. Burn more, skip further.

  4. iv

    It becomes that coin

    Its name, ticker and image are rewritten on-chain to the next dead coin. Nobody picks which.

The chain updates within a couple of minutes of a burn. Wallets and terminals (Phantom, Axiom, GMGN, Dexscreener) cache token metadata and will keep showing the old one for a while. That lag is theirs, not ours.
